What do you think?
I don't mean EoC, even after wilderness combat and free trade was removed for the first time, I remember RuneScape constantly had 250,000 players...

Personally, I decided that I could do better things with my time than grind levels. That being said, I started Runescape when I was younger and now I'm focusing on school, which is something that wasn't really important to me at all back when I played Runescape the most which is around the time it peaked. I really loved it for a couple of years but I've just lost interest. I personally play WoW now (though nowhere near as much as I used to play RS, just don't want to use all that time) and I think it's a lot more fun, but that could easily just be because it's still new to me, like RS was however many years ago when I started it.
Edit: Exactly what the person above me said. I guess that when the wave of young kids who played it around its peak got older, they weren't really replaced by a new huge wave of people. I don't know if that's because of bad advertising or game mechanics or whatever, really.
There were frequent content updates so the frequency was never the problem it was what the updates were is what the problem was. They were not approved by the majority of the players starting the trend of loosing players, and at the time JaGeX was worth a shit ton so when they lost players they lost money making them rush out updates including cosmetics, squeel of fortune, and other useless updates to gain more money because they got money hungry.
In the end I doubt anyone would have done it differently because when you gain the much money your whole perceptive changes therefore I do not blame JaGeX.
Removal of dicing, bots (this was a majority of "player count"), ft/w (even though it was brought back), armor updates, and SOF/SGS
Back when runescape had just launched there was no games other then WoW competing with them, so they got really popular quickly and grew.. Years later after those kids that were playing this game eventually quit and as jagex quitted advertising the game thinking they will keep their current players was a mistake, they should have kept advertising the game and they would probably be equally big today.
Doesn't belong here
