What do you guys use to host?

I need these statistics for Light232, he is programming something related to IO and he needs these statistics to see if he will program support for specific platforms.

Then it really depends in what language light is gonna write this.. (which is what I meant in my previous post, of course it's rsps related...)
Oh and if there are any more processes that need to be running on the host..

    (btw isn't Linux non-preëmptive?)

If it's i/o based I'd go for Linux as there are not alot of issues with its non-preëmptive behaviour (unless you have some other processes running that are not performing any type of i/o and if it needs a long time to complete). Else I'd go for Mac for safety (but then again what language is this planned to be written in?), Windows just sucks. And who cares what people use to host on? They should choose for the best working hosting system for their needs..

Um..its a library in Java but the underlying code is platform dependent (in C)...

The question was: What operating system do you use for hosting?
Whatever else you have on there is something i doubt he cares about, he wants to know what operating systems you use, not your reasons for using it...

He isn't suggesting "Hey use this operating system!", HE JUST WANTS TO KNOW WHAT YOU USE!

And I'm telling you that I pick my hosting os based on the applications I'll be running on it so that's why I want to know. Your question is a kind of dynamic question in my case.
And no C is not platform dependent, C is processor dependent (the compiler specifies what processor and platform the created executable can be run on)..

Your trying to be smart ye?

By the way C is platform dependent! BOTH SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE

MICROSOFT HAS ITS OWN DAMN CALLING CONVENTION
    LINUX HAS ITS OWN
MICROSOFT HAS ITS OWN SYSTEM CALLS
    LINUX HAS ITS OWN
SAME APPLY TO OTHER OPERATING SYSTEMS

You still have alot to learn, dont start flashing off shit you dont know SHIT about.

You can WRITE PORTABLE code in C/C++, USING LIBRARIES THAT ARE PLATFORM DEPENDENT (e.g. CRT)!

Why do you shit headed wanabe-smartasses piss me off so much?
Oh thats right, CUZ YOU DONT KNOW SHIT AND YOU FLASH OFF LIKE YOU DO.

If it pisses you of then leave moron. C is independent (the compiler is dependent on machine and platform but that doesn't make fucking C dependent).

Oh and nobody said anything about portable (yes a compiled c executable isn't portable to a different machine or platform duh) we talked about dependency.
