503+ is the new engine tho. Actually it depends on what you want to call the new engine, as somewhere around 420 (no exact idea) a new engine was written as well, but anyways 503+ had a new engine because HD was released.

it's not really a "new" engine at all... jagex have just been building on the original rs2 engine (which is probably based off of rsc's engine).
