Thread: Recreating the game that I loved (2011 Recreation Server)

Hello everyone,

This is a tough post to make but it needs to be made.

I used to really love posting updates back when I started, but over the years it started to feel like a chore to post them; it takes away from my enjoyment of working on this passion project.

My life has also changed greatly in the last year and will continue to change. I decided I no longer wanted to spend all of my free time sitting in my room working on this. Thus, I have less time to work on it.

Perhaps it's my own fault for how I envision it like I'm being watched and judged on how long I take to complete quests or content.

Another reason is that it doesn't feel special anymore. Back when I started in 2018, I never envisioned OSRS adding content like Nex, Soul Wars, Korasi or doing their own Mahjarrat quest line. There is even talk of them releasing their own HD version and back porting pre-eoc quests.

I dislike oldschool and don't ever plan to play it again, but there's no denying that aside from dungeoneering and quests it has way more content than 2011 RuneScape ever did (especially bossing).

Anyway, sorry to disappoint but I will never be putting this server live and this will be my last post on Rune-Server. You can call it quitting or whatever you want, but I'm going to keep working on it for my own enjoyment.

sometimes the best rsps' aren't meant to be played in the end, but the journey of the progress that has been made.

I and many others admired your work and appreciate your time in giving us nostalgia by the post.

I can definitely sympathize with these feelings as well. Sad to see you go. Hopefully, the people that are interested in pre-eoc remakes that keep splitting off for the sake of "2011" for some reason can actually centralize and work on a single project instead of splitting off as a result of this. Hyperfocusing on menial things such as easily client-adjustable item models, gameframe sprites, color saturation in maps, etc, when the revision with the most content will always be the best in the long run just as you explained with OSRS.
