Honestly it depends what your using wordpress for, if your using it for the purpose of which it was created for (blogs) it will be fine. But the problem is all the plugins built for wordpress were built in such a shit way that they do not create new database tables to suite there needs, instead they make use of the tables that were designed for blog posts and flood the shit out of it causing the site to be super slow with its super inefficient database queries. Because they use a key value system with no primary keys or indexes when doing queries for fetching data for users e.g. Its SUPER slow and inefficient. For example, one of the worst ecommerce platforms of all time (woocommerce) is a prime example on wordpress of shit design. But like I said, wordpress is good if it was used being used for what it was designed for.

I agree about that, one solution I have developed for WooConmerce is a plugin that only actually stores 1 Product in the WooCommerce products table, The rest of the data is stored in a separate table within the WP Database and the product data is passed to through to WooCommerce when adding too cart. This table is able to be queried, populated and managed through the WP REST API.
(Theres a lot more too it than this, the idea was made for one of my clients who has a website with 20k+ products who needed a less server intensive system
Update 21/02/2021 - Item DB.
I Figured alot of people may not require or want to use this feature, But thought it could be handy for the purpose of keeping track of rare prices etc on economy based servers so just made a simple little system. The images are loaded using the Item ID from a sprites folder within the theme. Total folder size is 16mb, contains over 30k Images. (Not sure about this method currently but this will do for now)
All Items Page (Will add a search function, have strayed a little from the original RS design to keep it simplistic)
Single item with working Graph (uses Charts.js)
Adding a new product.
This is legendary good to be honest amazing work!
Make sure you use waybackmachine to grab assets.
Last time I looked Runescape had been removed from the internet archive
Unfortunately I've not made any changes to this for a few days due to work commitments, however I plan to start developing the hiscores next and include a minimal version of my hiscores plugin within the theme
