what is player share? I don't get it
|
Hello Everyone! So I was feeling a little nostalgic over the whole idea of player share. Remember when you could be the biggest leech in the community and get like 10 players in a hour just for a dollar from RS-PS? In addition to my nostalgia my server is kinda dead. I took this as a wonderful opportunity to do something I know a lot of people have probably been waiting or wishing for. I'm bringing player share back from the dead.
Spoiler for What is player share?:

You are correct unfortunately. Ours does the same thing except it lands you on the URL you provide when you sign up.

I don’t get this either.
This is a bad idea if you want a server to implement this kind of system, they wouldn't allow it themselves. However, my another understanding for this is you will create a community or site like RSPS toplist then let's say, Elkoy is the top #1 in that list but they will undergo maintenance for 5 hours (just an example), then when someone clicks "Elkoy" advertisement banner your site, it will redirect the player to a random online RSPS, am I correct?
well as I understand it;
- owners can register their server and it will be added to some sort of list
>a random user can press a button, which will then take you to a random server that is online or something
think about it as that twitch thing, where streamers can redirect viewers to another stream when they go offline
Unless people are still hosting servers on their PC, this wouldn't really work. Servers rarely go offline for more than several minutes, and I'm sure RSPS owners wouldn't want their players to be redirected to a new site in that small timespan.
Elkoy would never be down for 5 hours it's entirely unprofessional and in addition to that unless players found a server they became more fond of then their home server within that 5 hour timespan they would just return later.
You do bring up a valid point with the banner thing. I'm going to be adding a small buffer to the redirect process that tells users why they are being redirected shortly.
Kinda but there are no buttons involved the system is automated and processes when you load the link.
Thanks for selling it If your server is rarely offline then you would only be receiving players from servers during maintenance or down times. Plus you have to consider dead servers.
