John Purcell's introductory course for learning Java is well worth the watch, as is his course on multi-threading. I've sampled numerous tutorials from paid sites like Lynda and I feel like they mostly beat around the bush by discussing concepts such as refactoring and polymorphism very abstractly. As far as books go, I strongly recommend Java: The Complete Reference.

I'd go with: https://zimslifeintcs.files.wordpres...nd-edition.pdf it's a very good book for beginners and fun to read.

While there are definitely a lot of languages you should avoid when starting off (e.g. Brainfuck), there's simply no hard and fast rule on what you should learn first. I started off with JavaScript, Java and VB.NET (which is arguably the easiest of the mentioned languages for quickly developing simple applications) and haven't yet learned Python. It doesn't really matter which language you start off with because once you understand the key concepts, moving onto most other languages only requires you to get used to the new syntax (the exception being the transition between functional and imperative programming), so try some languages out and go with what you like the most.

If you want to join the hype with new languages though, take a look at Go and some of the newer JavaScript tools like NodeJS.

I learned Java when I was 9 with no programming experience at all and literally just playing with code, no courses or anything. You can learn Java too, probably faster (it was an on and off thing and I didn't know it was called programming till lik a year later maybe). That's probably not the best way to learn a language, but yeah, as some posts above me gave links, use those resources. Make sure to make learning the language fun, not a chore. Troll around.

Java was my first language and it was a good first language for me. I learned Python many years after learning Java.

Not too sure about that, it's at 0 . It would have to go minus to even be remotely close to his IQ.
