I was alone for my first years of programming. My first and last partners were from this forum. I don't have friend irl who like programming.

For as long as I have been programming RSPS, and just programming in general, I have had someone that I could talk to once in a while to discuss designs, ideas, and potential improvements. The benefit of such a privilege, to me, is staggering. Often, when I am trying to design something, I plan a rough outline of how it will operate and look, but I usually have some jagged edges so to speak and having the input of another person has always been invaluable to me. Sometimes, their ideas have helped me get past a roadblock, or have directed me in a completely different direction. Regardless of their input, the outcome that I produce I have always felt more confident about.
When I use the term partner, I am not referring to a person who works side-by-side with me and we constantly collaborate. In fact, I feel that those kinds of relationships are often more hindering than constructive. Because programmers often learn from examples and experience, each programmer tends to acquire unique habits and tendencies that they are strongly accustomed to. Sometimes, programmers may disagree and that is where progress begins to wane. In my opinion, the best relationship to have with a programming partner is one where you two are disconnected in the sense that you are working on individual projects in your own unique ways, but are able to comfortably discuss ideas and share criticisms.
So, I want to ask you handful of people who scroll this far down on the forum page, do you have a person that you like to share ideas with? Ask to review your work? Or just talking about programming in general? If so, I would be interested to hear how you two (or however many) work things out and what you do.

Rubber duck debugging - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
My mom is my rubber duck. best programming partner ever
I also got a university buddy who is into haskell as well. We usually disagree so heavily that we curse as if we're going to kill eachother, but it gives way for good criticism and acctual intelectual debate.
