Anybody can do it nowadays.. with a bit of common sense, a basic understanding of Java, and Google examples/tutorials. Seeing as everything is at the tips of ones fingers now (aside from fancy cache contents), what do you think would separate a 2D Java game from the rest?
We can sit here and talk our products up all day long, and even show "acceptable" results, but usually the source is too sentimental/important OR embarrassing to share with the general public to prove it is what it is.. So, here's the major question:
The concept of the game could be anything; but what would make you want to play my game* over the other guys production?
* hypothetically speaking
This is not limited to just the game, but to the website as well, and overall project concept.
not 2d
A game in general needs some common things in order to be a succes. This book explains this fairly well: Fundamentals of Game Design (second edition) written by Ernest Adams.
Reading this book will give you a strong approach how to develop a good game. The book does not discuss anything programming related but focuses on the design (story, goals etc. not graphical or programming related stuff).
not all games are made to be played. i bet some of the ones you're talking about are meant to just be for learning purposes and they invite other people to come play just for lulz.
you're taking a runescape private server forum too seriously especially considering the subject matter. games aren't spr srs. that's why games are games.
