they can be, they don't have to be. Swift is apple's latest language that targets iOS applications - however there's other alternatives too. xamarin is an example of software that allows you to target both platforms.

there's no way they're gonna rewrite the client either way, they'll use a tool to compile the client for use on native mobile platforms

I believe they mentioned designing NXT to be able to port to other platforms, will be interesting to see what they decide to do with osrs
