    I think unsigned client was only used if you had an old Java/computer or other compatibility problems, it shouldn't be related to safe mode as far as I know

    They could have ported the majority of the client to native code, so the only Java portion is the wrapper that starts it up... Requiring the removal of the unsigned option

    Safe mode is just a graphics mode. You can't enter Safe mode via the graphic options, you have to hit the "s" key on start up to go into safe mode.
    For whatever reason, bots don't function too well outside of this graphics mode and it just seems like something Jagex would do since they've made bold claims about bots before which have turned out to be crap.

    I think the removal of the unsigned client is unrelated, as the bot that they are referring to the most in their news post (NeXus) has the ability to function in signed and unsigned mode.

    Nexus uses reflection and so does RsBuddy. RsBuddy not so much though, Arbiter said if they have to they can easily switch the small portion of Reflection they use to ASM.

    They are getting rid of reflection, not modes. Removing the safe mode would affect a lot of players who can't use other modes

    They removed safe mode from the choosable graphics options ages ago, if you use the auto setup option they have and your on a bad machine it puts you on software with all settings to low (or at least it did with my 13 year old laptop). Maybe it does put some people into safe mode on some occasions, but I'm pretty sure the percentage of people that legitimately need to use safe mode is small, the rest are just bots.

    It isn't just reflection they're getting rid of though, they're getting rid of injection bots too. It doesn't really make much sense, if what they're doing can get rid of 98% of the bots (or so they claim) why have they waited until now to do it? It just seems a little odd that they would do some massive bot breaking update now, which is why I think it'll be some cheap change.

    Then your 13 year old laptop must be good. On 512mb RAM 700MHz processor with 64MB graphics card it automatically went to safe mode. Also if you run in Mac, safe mode is there.

    @2nd paragraph

    They changed which JMod was incharge of bot prevention. I think the new persons name is Daniel Clough.

    I thought safe mode was what the game falls back to if the client is unsigned. If the unsigned client is removed, safe mode will be too. Maybe I'm wrong.

    I don't see what you're saying. I suspect whatever they're implementing took some time to come up with. They've probably tried a number of methods to defeat bots, and this just happened to be they're latest effort.

    Yes in unsigned the client automatically goes into safe mode and is the only available graphics option. Safe mode is also available on signed too though.

    What I'm saying is it's a bit sudden, and the statistics they've given look as if they've pulled them out of their ass, you have to admit that the 98% of bots will be gone claim is a bit bold.
    They've promised bot busting updates to their players in the past and it's been nothing but rubbish, I don't think anything is going to change this time.

    I don't know a great deal about how bots function, but it is to my understanding if Safe mode is removed, the bots have to update their hooks to function with other graphics mode like OpenGL which currently none of them do, which is why I think they're just going to remove Save mode.

    The code name hints at clusters of variables/addresses being swapped around almost randomly. Arian came up with a great theory on how they would do it, so it'll be interesting to tear apart the client after the update
