I mean you’re putting words in my mouth, first of all very few people die because they can’t afford health care, in America at least, you can afford health insurance by working at McDonalds and the majority of jobs give you health insurance. Also in nearly all states even if you can’t afford it they won’t deny you medical care, you’ll go into debt but they won’t let you die. There are food banks that are based on donation that help people who can’t get food, and if you can’t afford an apartment that’s on you. Also I never said the 1% are doing the hard work, it’s not about working hard it’s about working smart. I’m sure construction workers and physical laborers worked harder than Bill Gates but it’d be foolish to compare the impact they’ve had on the planet. Also I never said that is the main takeaway, but it’s a dangerous side effect. Also, my family migrated to the United States from the Soviet Union, one generation up and I have stories from communist Russia, it’s a shit system that kills off innovation and drive to be successful. An argument can be made for democratic socialism, but communism and anybody who thinks it’s viable in a country as big and as ideologically diverse as America is wrong. At the end of the day, I don’t believe it’s my responsibility to pay for some random in my state who can’t afford health care, if my parents could come here with no money at all, no language, dedicate years, and give me and my family a great upbringing it can be done by anyone. Guarantee you if we moved to a socialist country we’d still be relying on government assistance to live.
When did anybody mention third world countries? I’m talking about capitalism vs communism/socialism in developed countries.
mate, you're either seriously delusional or a liar.
Thousands of people die every day because they cannot afford health care. The richest country in the world has the most expensive health care... doesn't make any sense. You cannot afford healthcare working at McDonald's lol. They only give health insurance policies to "eligible" employees, which is just their way of picking who they want to give health insurance to. If you're actually eligible somehow, it's a shitty plan and still gonna cost you fortunes.
Which brings up another huge issue. Your healthcare is only available to you if you're working. If you are unemployed due to various circumstances (pandemic maybe) you are not covered. If you're not generating any value for the economy you are essentially worthless and too expensive to keep alive.
Lol what's worse dying or being enslaved to debt for the rest of your life? A 10 day hospital stay can cost you $100,000+ good luck with that. They keep you alive if you can afford it.
how much do you pay in rent? Try living in New York city where a studio apartment is $2,000/month
rent prices are fucked in America too
could be you one day, then you wouldn't have that same mind set.
My rent is $3200 here but outside of my city there’s places for $1200-$1500, nobody is forcing people to live in New York or stay in America lol. Majority of us enjoy the system here and have benefitted from it greatly. People who don’t like it can move. The number is like 20k die because they don’t have health insurance. 400k die from heart disease so that number isn’t that much tbh. Sure it’s harder to live nice in a capitalist economy because there isn’t as much support from the start, but the potential achievement here is much greater than majority of other countries, and I’m willing to take that risk. Not everyone has goals to make millions one day or big money, some people prefer subtle lives with guaranteed back up plans, without potential of big money. Then sure go to a socialist country and live there. But I’ll pass, I’m not arguing for world wide capitalism but America works. Some socialist countries work too though, like Scandinavian countries, they seem to be doing ok, but they have small populations so it’s not a fair comparison to USA. My parents moved here from russia and went from being broke, no language, very little education, to bringing in nearly a million a year each, these are the kinds of things only possible in America.
Are we still pretending that fast food workers should be able to earn a livable wage? You are the delusional one. Anyone employed at McDonalds who is not a teenager is a bum, but let's reward their hard work and talent with $15/hour
Come on guys, Rune-Server is full of seemingly "talented" (not smart) people, who should understand the fact that skilled people should be rewarded for educating themselves and the fact that their talent is in higher demand.
Yes, let's pick the most densely populated, largest city in America, and then generalize rent prices in America as "fucked." Truly incredible logic.
I pay $350 - 450 a month in rent in a large state college town with tens of thousands of students and a large non-student population. This is a fairly common price.
I'm delusional for believing everyone is entitled to a livable wage? Just because someone is in a different circumstance than you doesn't mean they don't deserve a decent quality of life.
Not everyone can afford to go to college and educate themselves. Can you not see that literally everything in America has a huge pay wall? Not everyone wants to take out loans that they'll be paying off for the rest of their life. College doesn't even guarantee you a decent job or a job at all. lmao You have absolutely no perspective.
I live in Orlando and the rent prices are fucked here too. Obviously rent prices are more reasonable if you live in the back arse of no where. $350 is very reasonable. You wont find that ANYWHERE in Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Miami, New York city, etc.
Then move lol nobody is forcing you live in better cities with higher wages, move to Detroit and enjoy you cheap rent. Don’t make the choice of living in a place with higher rent and then complaining about it. And I wouldn’t say delusional but saying everyone deserves a livable wage just isn’t right, some people’s work is easily replaceable and not worth much, it’s good for young people who want to make some quick and easy money, but no you shouldn’t be able to survive off McDonald’s. You don’t need to go to college to make good money, you can do physical labor, or start your own business, all of which can make livable incomes.
gonna need a stat on that
this is a flat out lie, idk why you're trying to lie to me
"At approximately 30 million in 2019[1], higher than the entire population of Australia, the number of people without health insurance coverage in the United States is one of the primary concerns raised by advocates of health care reform. Lack of health insurance is associated with increased mortality, in the range 30-90 thousand deaths per year, depending on the study.[2][3]"

so you're ignoring all of the homeless people and literally just saying "get a job"you can afford health insurance by working at McDonalds and the majority of jobs give you health insurance.
what a great system, not letting your citizens die but ensuring they have enough crippling debt to keep them working until age 80Also in nearly all states even if you can’t afford it they won’t deny you medical care, you’ll go into debt but they won’t let you die.
and for some reason you see this as a benefit to capitalism?it’s not about working hard it’s about working smart. I’m sure construction workers and physical laborers worked harder than Bill Gates but it’d be foolish to compare the impact they’ve had on the planet.
i asked "why" and that was one of your main points so...Also I never said that is the main takeaway, but it’s a dangerous side effect.
that's fine but the reality of the situation is that you are paying for them either way. they don't exist in a vacuum outside of your society just because you aren't possibly still funding them involuntarily. every time a junkie gets rushed to hospital because they couldn't afford proper rehab, you bet you're paying out of your taxes for it.I don’t believe it’s my responsibility to pay for some random in my state who can’t afford health care
this is just anecdotal nonsense. "if bill gates can become a billionaire anyone can". rubbish.if my parents could come here with no money at all, no language, dedicate years, and give me and my family a great upbringing it can be done by anyone.
you mean like the government assistance Trump is giving out right now?Guarantee you if we moved to a socialist country we’d still be relying on government assistance to live.
moving is not free and not something a lot of people can "just do".
it's not always a choice and it definitely isn't as easy as just uprooting yourself and dropping into another state.Don’t make the choice of living in a place with higher rent and then complaining about it.
imagine thinking that people that work for their livelihood should be able to live on what they're paid. lmao...
The real trick capitalism pulled on idiots like u is pitting u against people who make $8 an hour instead of the richest who earn thousands and millions of times more than that. How about pay everyone a decent living wage, pay talented people a lot more than that, and stop the richest handful of people in america being wealthier than half of the entire world combined.
And McDonalds is hard and unpleasant work, and I bet you'd also talk shit about refuse collection, sewege work, retail, bussing and waiting... any job that doesn't require a GED, because you got one and that makes you Better Than Everyone Else. Well, there aren't enough teenagers in america to fill all of those jobs, so in your magical world where nobody is a "bum" you have no shops, no restaurants, garbage piled in the streets, and no working sewage system. Kind of funny how without all those things the world starts to sound a lot more like the middle ages - the same place your dumbass values belong.
