Thank you for at least admitting that there is a classical category mistake, we're getting somewhere. Anyway, when theological discussions take place, in the nicest way possible, opinion doesn't matter. Personal experiences concerning a deity or someone's urge to side with the nihilistic narrative don't hold any weight when people logically discuss. The point of religion solely basing itself on faith is certainly an incorrect one, because there are plenty of philosophical arguments that even make use of scientific facts, such as the cosmological argument (a very strong one). When using Science as the tool for the absolute truth, we find out that it's not equipped to explain it, as internally it is concerned with what is observable. If we want to say that Religion requires a leap of faith, then I can be pedantic and say that is applicable to every single thing we claim to know, even the most fundamental that we take for granted in our day to day lives. That's where it comes to serious debates on the actuality of solipsism, etc. The gods of the gap analogy you used is applicable to the Mayas sure, but in modern widespread Religions, it's definitely not the case. If you want to talk about this more you can add me on skype at kaleemwhynot
It isn't subjective..there is an objective truth. Objectively speaking, Religion is concerned with metaphysics. Objectively speaking, Science is concerned with observations and then building working models around it. It's all good having an opinion on Religion being logical or illogical, that IS subjective ultimately, but you claimed that Science answered questions so Religion no longer plays a part. This is completely untrue and it's a common category issue people make. That's why a theistic narrative ultimately holds out more when being structured with the Scientific method. It's making use of empirical knowledge, something that Nihilism certainly doesn't.
Literally what? You do realize Science has never bothered explaining the driving force behind the naturalistic world? Science is concerned with what is observable, and what Religion claims is metaphysics. I'd love to know what Science has an explanation for
why is religion a joke
yeah sure
