problem that I see here is..
as a client you instruct changes based off what you want.
you cannot allow someone to “start” the final product after talking about designs and then back out.
you instructed wave incorrectly if the design came out the wrong way.
graphics design isn’t a linear thing.
you should pay wave for his time regardless of the “appreciation” of the design
I’m sure he showed many renditions as the graphic that was being created.
Very sad to see how you handled this situation.
when you hire someone to do a non linear job, be more precise with your info.

you have paid for his time not the “perfection” of work at the end of the day.

You should try to work with Fiverr. Lot's of potential there and many logo requests daily.

Love how what you've created is way better than what they decided to go with. It sucks to see freelancers doing good work like this, just for them to not be paid. It sucks to see you leave, however I hope you find success doing graphic work where ever you decide to go. Take care :)

Unfortunately, there are these types of people. As other people said, look into Fiverr services, I'm sure you'll grow a lot more in your designing work and will reach bigger and better goals in your career :) .
