    decided to try something cool

    Spoiler for original:

if anyone wants to see the process

    Spoiler for background:
Started with a radial gradient focusing the highlight at the light source, duplicating that layer then using a layer mask soft brush outside of the light source, then a blue/black gradient layer.

    Spoiler for the hunter:
Inserted the "Hunter" using 2 layers of him, used colour balance to help make him blend in a little better, using a soft brush with low opacity on a layer mask to remove some parts of his original background. He's a little too dark here so time to brighten him up. Those floating rocks will be gone.

    Spoiler for the hunted:
Fire goblin incoming, since he was on a white background I used magic wand tool to get rid of the background then transported him over. Since there was still a lot of white spots in some spaces, I used an orange/yellow gradient to fill him out.

    Spoiler for the hunted adjustments:

Fixed up the area around him, he's on a fire so he's got to leave some sort of trail. Making the light bounce onto the tree bark was a bit difficult. Using a fire stock to add some fire trails on his head/back.

    Spoiler for butterflies!:
Surrounding area is a bit dull, so I decided to brighten it up a bit with some magical butterflies!?

Nicely done. I'll break some things down.

    • Glows/lightsources are typically radial unless obstructed. Your leading focal draws a straight edge which looks a bit awkward. https://i.imgur.com/fkXcJ7v.png
    • The contrast is a touch dialed up too high, adding a little too much darkness to a lot of areas. The butterflies for example are almost entirely blacked out. Lightening those areas up a bit emphasizing a light source from the light source would be wicked.
    • The blue/orange contrast is often overdone. It would be neat to see the introduction of some other colors here, maybe using the butterflies as means to do so.
    • The "hunter" feels flat, though that's the downside of the contrast issues throughout. Considered darkening him a bit, which will also act to bring him forward and define his features.
    • Experiment with depth a little more. There's always room for improvement, with this being no exception. There's some serious potential to really add some here.
    • Adding a few more of the sparks and trails from the butterflies could really make for some great atmosphere.

In short, great concept, but the execution is a touch lacking. For what it's worth though, I really like where this piece is headed, but it feels like it's 70% done or so.

I don't know much about graphics so I can't give any constructive criticism,

But I do really like what you have done here so good work.

Thank you very much, the random blue spot seemed to have been caused by an early version of the colour dodge overlay, so I fixed that up. Depth is something I completely forgot which is bad, I'll work on that. I'm going to try a different colour for the butterflies.

Thank you everyone else for the kind comments.

Seeing you improving at this speed is sick. Your wings are definitely starting to spread.

Taking in Wolf's feedback, I made some adjustments to it which I hope makes it a little better, seen in the main post

Made the light source at the back shine a bit more off hunter and increased the opacity of him (I had two layers, so I increased the one on top). Tried playing with Gaussian blur to bring out the subjects more in the hopes of creating depth. Also made the butterflies more colourful.
