Truthfully it seems like you're taking it to the extreme with your example, the login screen is something that people probably sit in for about what? 5% of the entire experience total if that?
Your opinion of saying that it will not fit with the in-game style is correct and I can agree with, however to say that will put the player off based on it's login screen then I'm sure 80% of the RSPS scene has had hundreds, if not thousands of put-off players because of their misleading login-screens.
That leads me to my final point - this is an RSPS, people know what to expect style-wise, people aren't going to download the client without randomly looking at in-game features, see the client BG, proceed to log in only to be disappointed because they were basing their entire expectations of the login screen
However, I posted this as just an art piece stating that it will be the login BG - I'd prefer we discuss piece itself for CnC rather than what it's for.
This is boss!
funny you mention l4d, i LOOOVE that game (300+ hours on it) and yeah it actually has flat style artwork in some of the posters you find in game or just artwork about the game in general thought im not sure if that's the same type as quacked may be referring to (idk a ton about gfx).
anyways i think this looks freaking amazing, I really love this kind of style and i would LOVE to see more like this in the future if you do more! keep it up man
Definitely different examples than what we are referring to. If he adds more detail into his flat art, that's awesome. But there's isn't detail at all, it's flat solid shapes, with no individual detail like you find in each of your examples.
Disclaimer, I'm not dogging this artwork at all, I just think it's purpose is a little skewed.
Consistency is key to any form of branding and i heavily agree that this will struggle to fit a private server, however i cant think of many examples of private server work that does. Besides that the piece is nice, good work.
