At first glance you don't assume it's water until you see the reflection. Maybe add some ripples or a fish jumping out of the water o.O

Shadow of a bird in the water or a bird swooshing down and picking up a fish outta the water.
All that's missing is an old man fishing from a small, old boat sitting in the water, with a ripple effect.
Edit: now that I look at it again, it looks more like a Savanna river, everything is brilliant
Looks awesome, and I agree with Fred his idea is pretty good.
