How to make a Nebula Effect from scratch using photoshop.
Heres what we are going to do:
Step 1. Creating your canvas, you can use any size you want but for this I'm just using 1440x900 as its a good size for this tutorial, if your making it for a desktop background, find out your screen resolution.
Step 2. Hit "D" on your keyboard to set default colours and fill the background Black, then your going to want to head over to "Effects" and add ticket "Gradient Overlay" leave it as Black&White and tick the "Reverse" button and set the Style to "Radial" and move the Radial light so its half in and out of your canvas and set the opacity to 60%
Step 3. Now create a new layer and set White as your foreground colour and fill your canvas white then you will want to go to "Filter" --> "Render" --> "Lighting Effects" and select RGB lights from the drop down list and leave everything default and it should like this.
Step 4. Now you are going to want to blur your RGB lights so head over to "Blur" --> "Gaussian Blur" and set the pixels to 76 and click ok and you should be looking something along the lines of this.
Step 5. Set the blend mode to Overlay, create a new layer fill it black and go to "Filter" --> "Noise" --> "Add Noise" and set the percent to 10% , Tick "Gaussian" and Tick "Monochromatic" now your going to want to add some Levels so press "CTRL+L" and change the settings to.... "65" --> "Leave it at 1.00" --> 99 and press ok, this has create your star effect.
Step 6. Set the blending mode to "Screen" on your star effect now we are getting into the good part, make a new layer and go into "Filter" --> "Render" --> "Clouds" and set the blending mode to "Overlay"
Step 7. Create another layer and fill it black now go to "Filter" --> "Render" --> "Lens Flare" and play around with it to your liking or use my settings "Must have 105mm Prime Ticked!"
Step 8. Move the Lens flare layer above the RBG lights layer, now click on your cloud layer and go to "Effects" tick "Gradient Overlay" and set the Blendmode to "Overlay" and change the Angle to around 140% and click the Gradient box to edit the colours of your choice.
That is you done! you can add other things you personally think will look good. I hope you like this tutorial!
