Can you show an example of what you're meaning?

Right, so I'm smudging and it's looking alright, but I forget how to make the smudge outlines and Google isn't giving me anything useful. Can somebody please refresh my memory?
By smudge outlines I mean the little glowing line-type things between separate smudge lines.
Thanks + cheers.

Do you have any examples of others performing this?
Pretty much I just want to add some highlights and some colors and stuff.
Like these:

My smudges look pretty shitty so far. They look really basic and I just smudge the render to create a background so they're boring and plain with ugly colors.
Use pentool to create different highlights, people usually set their brush to 1-3px and 90-100% hardness (make sure you check the "Simulate pressure" box)

these two are the strongest examples of this technique.
The other two just utilize alot of gaussian blur and screen-style layers

Ahhh thanks a lot.
But how would I go about making something like these?:

Y'know all artistic-like. It's kinda hard to describe.
he used pentool, id rather suggest to just brush it around
Ahh, I see.
How could I make smudges like this?

With that kind of lighting and detail. My smudges don't look realistic, if you know what I mean. I'd like to be able to make detailed, definitive artistic smudges.
