I'm bringing this up as Sytrix has mentioned this in one of my threads, the question is, is flat design expected to die anytime soon? currently I'm researching on this and there is obviously no answer to it, flat design is trending right now. Companies & Industries are expecting designers to follow the trend pretty much.

Skeuomorphism is long gone and dead. However a fair point that a few designers have mentioned is that Skeuomorphism requires more skill, creativity, and focus. Skeuomorphism is more detailed and requires more work, and so they believe Skeuomorphism should have stayed alive, but it's gone now.

I personally think flat will stay and is better for the future, its minimalism, clean, and elegant.

I'd like to know what you guys think?

Flat and "clean" designs have become a trend (in web design) because it does not take much to complete. Compared to other sites that use images to create these very detailed backgrounds, sites with flat and clean designs do not need to load these images, that cause slower loading times, and only have to load the colors in the css. Personally, I believe that flat designs look more "professional" in a sense.

Disagree, skeumorphic design is still used and works in some cases, i wouldnt call it dead. I also disagree that it takes more skill than flat design, compare bing.com and stripe.com, both use flat design yet one is beautiful and one is meh. There's a definite need for skill creativity and focus for both design styles.

The usage of flat design is way way more compared to skeumorphic design, hence why some designers are assuming or thinking its dead. In Mobile apps and websites these days, how often do u see skeumorphic design being used? literally barely. At least for cooperate based websites and apps.

Corporate sites and mobile apps arent what skeumorphic designs usually target though? I agree flat design is way more dominant but to say skeumorphic design is "dead" is incorrect.

I didn't know this was here before I made the comment on the Showcase topic, lol.

From my experience, designing flat interfaces gives a lot better practice for your layout and getting messages across, which I believe is the most important part of our field. We want to get a message across for our consumers in the form of a graphic.
Now, when it comes to areas that don't have focus on perceiving a message, but instead for fun, or call to action "Play" buttons, etc. You want something that will attract the eye - design with a lot of detail come into play there.

It really all depends on what it is for, and it's always good to have a hand in any style of design. That's what I've egged myself to do since I started designing, and that's what every designer should do, imho.

Look at my biggest source of inspiration (though he is way ahead of me in every aspect of art imaginable): https://dribbble.com/creativemints

All-in-all, ya just need to learn every bit you can get involved with - but flat UI will achieve the most results these days (and will continue to for a LONG time), and that's fact.

"metro", as its formally designated, is played out and milked beyond any benefit from actually utilizing this design language. every application on mobile and desktop marketplaces alike use it now and it is not considered new or interesting anymore, so yes id say it will die soon

Skeuomorphism and metro are two different things

I personally believe flat design will keep on going at least for the next 10-20 years, why? I think because it's more futuristic and easier for users to perceive information, things are simpler so perception would be more easier right? not sure but something like this would require research.

Yeah they are two different things I'm aware.
