No doubt they're dying in the sense that they've peaked and their popularity will only decrease from here on out, but I reckon we've still got a healthy-ish several years left.

As far as I know, Zenyte still is very promising, and they want to do more unique content in the future according to Kris. They just need to piece together everything in appropriate order.
Then there is my Eldrios project, whenever I release that, hopefully we can attract some new RSPS gamers to the scene. Might not be very realistic, and according to some, it's near impossible. I have to say I agree with their skepticism. I however enjoy making something of quality and whether it succeeds or not doesn't bother me much, so time will tell
I wasn't trying to come across as pessimistic, or even skeptical--I was just trying to be realistic. As the community ages, the number of players leaving the scene will continue to grow, while the rate at which we attract fresh faces will continue to shrink (even with the occasional spike in popularity). I'd say we peaked around the Soulsplit era. But like I said, I still think the scene has several healthy years left.
Not sure if sarcasm or not, but I think if you designed something unique, and did it well. It would be more attractive than a OSRS clone. Who'd want to play a rip off when they can play the real deal? There are always risks of RSPSs shutting down, so they might as well play OSRS. Unless you either offer them shortcuts to the fun content or new things. Hell, even both. Both would probably be the better option
That's what I'm saying mate, see how OSRS makes their own objects, maps & big ass content like Raids etc? We should do shit like that, create completely new & unique building materials & bosses etc that look like OSRS would add them.
If we were adding such things, no doubt we'd gain more community members.
Yep have to agree with that, customs have always been recolours or models of cartoon characters people have found online. In the decade I've been here it's only really gone from "delta/PI with a hand full of minigames, bosses and custom objects maps" to "ruse/elvarg with a handful of osrs minigames, bosses and recently actual custom maps".
Server's rarely touch on the juicy content like quests, which is the high-quality storytelling which made rs popular in the first place, because everyone's so busy being the 348th person to re-implement Zulrah.
