I think traditionally RSPS has been losing players however I suspect this year we will see an influx in new members to the community due the the mobile expansion on OSRS. As long as OSRS flourishes there will be a place for RSPS.

The answer to that question is fairly obvious.
The question is will it get back on its feet or not though. I think right now is the best time for private servers to shine; RS itself just had its community expand by a third if not more. However I really don't think this will just magically reflect on private servers, especially in the state that they're in. All these "self-sustainable" servers out there are pretty fucking terrible. And I'm not even talking about the lack of content or creativity, that's another topic on its own. The servers just fail to implement literally anything properly; a game driven by bugs isn't very appealing, especially in 2018. Until that changes and these "owners" actually start caring for their shit, I don't see a very bright future for the servers.
Yes they are.
yes they are.
No.
Mine are doing just fine.
"Are rsps's dying"
That's a stupid question. Sure, it's harder to get players than it used to be, but that's because there is a fucking balls ton of servers and RS brought back osrs.
If OSRS goes anywhere, RSPS's will blow up again.
If RS3 goes anywhere, RSPS's will blow up again.
IF Runescape shuts down, RSPS's will still be relevant.
Either way, they're not going anywhere, for a long time.
My honest opinion:
RSPS's are not dying, like.. I see even more progress to RSPS'S at the moment, new people are entering the market and potential players are getting introduced to all different types of RSPS.
I can't lie a few months ago, I thought it was dying do to the lack of servers out there. For example, there wasn't any 614's a few months ago, 525's pking hardly, now so many are released. 667's another great example, DominationX got shutdown a few months ago, the only servers which were 667 were Delusion & BeastPk.. Now we see so many different 667s. Poanizer 667s,custom ones it's just great to see. Even though I hate custom servers I just adore when people release new shit and people play it.
RSPS will never die in my opinion, there is always going to be people playing RSPS'S it's a market where it will never die.
I don't think dying, as of yet. But i don't think it will grow. Kids these days are no longer playing MMO's, especially Runescape... it's all about Fortnite and BR for them now, (I'm talking young kids, ages 9-15) without growth of the scene and with people growing up/starting families/careers, or simply getting bored of RSPS as a whole the scene begins to thin out a little.
I'd say struggling. I don't see RSPS' being here in 5 years and if they are i see only 1-2 having more than 100 players. Already signs of the top servers getting increasingly lower concurrent players and peak players, for example Alora.
Although Alora is still very clearly at the forefront of RSPS in terms of success/playerbase/content. It's pulling a consistent low 600. By no means is that bad but over the years if you look at which server was #1 the numbers have always been higher, but i'm no expert, maybe that's because now there's so many servers of similar style and quality that players are simply spread more. Who knows. Time will tell
