No home: Players have to walk to access most features. Shops are placed around the world. Emulating runescape's NPC spawns. More of a remakish server.

Small home: All resources such as npcs, useful objects, and bank, are in one small specific or closed off area. Everything is accessed by teleport. An example of this would be underground in the Mage Training Arena. Usually has skilling areas.

Big home: The "using an entire city" concept. NPC spawns are placed around the city. The city's bank buildings are used as the banks. Objects are spread around the home. Most skills can be completed right outside the city, such as fishing, woodcutting, ect.

    No home or big home.

Homes a load of crap on most servers, I can't stand the whole "easy shops," "literally everything is in one place" type of home.

It doesn't have to be a remake, but it doesn't have to be stupid either.

Well for Runescape, there's technically multiple homes, such as Lumbridge, Falador, Edgeville, Lunar island. No one really hangs out around these areas, other then edgeville for obvious reasons. That being said a big home is useless I find, if everything is in one spot then it's no fun. If stuff is spread and you've still got an official/unofficial home for selling and such, then you can at least put in some effort walking/teleporting to specific areas. Homes are usually just for people to interact, sell, buy and such for most private servers like above said "Easy shops" around the home for quick access. Even as a remake there's usually an unofficial home just for selling/buying, which is usually what it was like before the G.E/after the G.E was implemented.

It depends on the kind of server you are developing man, the exp rate and the amount of players. If you have a low exp rate I suggest no home or a big home like Varrock. If you have a server with high exp rates players are getting bored of walking and doing stuff so at that point I recommend a small home with shops etc in it.
