hope randies dont constantly pause the movies
|
I thought it might be interesting to give movie night a shot. The plan is to watch a couple of movies a week - one foreign language and a more normie one in English. Feel free to leave suggestions for the future.
The current schedule:
Date/time Year Title Genre Country Language Trailer Aug 16th 21:00 UTC+0 2015 Hardcore Henry Action Russia English audio https://youtu.be/wv33e0TyL6M Aug 22nd 21:00 UTC+0 1997 Ma vie en rose Dramedy Belgium French audio w/ English subs https://youtu.be/4Yp8-r0G_w4
How will it work?:
We'll hop into a Discord group chat where you totally definitely won't find a download link to the film . At the scheduled time, we'll start watching.
We'll be using a open-source program called syncplay—available on Windows, macOS, Linux, and BSD—in order to watch.
Syncplay hooks into all the major media players, so you can watch with whatever player you like (VLC, MPV, MPC, etc). It allows me to pause/resume/jump to a time for all of us, and the movie will continue playing if your internet goes out while we're watching.
PLEASE CONFIGURE SYNCPLAY BEFORE THE LISTED TIME BECAUSE WE WILL NOT WASTE TIME HELPING YOU GET SETUP. Also, leave enough time to download the film (~1.5GB)
Preparation:
1. Download a copy of syncplay: https://syncplay.pl/download/
2. Set the right server, room code, and path to media player. Room: +runeserver:317E770395F7
3. Press "Store configuration and run syncplay", after which you should be greeted by something similar to this
4. DM me on Discord and I'll add you to the group chat - gweilo#0001

op i'm in
wouldnt it be easier to stream it through discord?
Easier on you, yeah, to an extent. But, it takes about a minute, not an exaggeration, to configure syncplay and in return:
- there's no viewer limit
- each person gets full control over their own media player
- everyone can have varying file sizes (I can watch original high-quality 20GB+ bluray, but some else can watch a smaller and lower quality 500MB encode)
- it doesn't rely on my upload speed, internet or electricity being consistent
- movie playback will continue for you even if your internet goes out
- there is no buffering as everyone has a local file
I won't be streaming anything personally.
