"We wouldn’t ever eat anybody, would we?"

    "No. Of course not."

    "No matter what?"

    "No. No matter what."

    "Because we’re the good guys."

    "Yes."

    "And we’re carrying the fire?"

    "And we’re carrying the fire."

    - The Road, Cormac McCarthy

(Personal note, planning on getting that tattoo in the near future).

The feelings that hurt most, the emotions that sting most, are those that are absurd; the longing for impossible things, precisely because they are impossible; nostalgia for what never was; the desire for what could have been; regret over not being someone else; dissatisfaction with the world’s existence. All these half-tones of the soul’s consciousness create in us a painful landscape, an eternal sunset of what we are.
    — Fernando Pessoa, Book of Disquiet

Every coming year is as bad as the previous one, the only difference being that in most cases it is even worse.

    — Anton Chekhov, from “A Night in the Cemetery” featured in A Night in the Cemetery & Other Stories

I cannot contribute anything to this world because I only have one method: agony.

    — Emil Cioran, On the Heights of Despair

“The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”
    — Marcus Aurelius

“Run down the list of those who felt intense anger at something: the most famous, the most unfortunate, the most hated, the most whatever: Where is all that now? Smoke, dust, legend…or not even a legend. Think of all the examples. And how trivial the things we want so passionately are.”
    — Marcus Aurelius

"Nothing is more unreliable than the populace, nothing more obscure than human intentions, nothing more deceptive than the whole electoral system."
    - Cicero; He was born 106 BC, and I believe he wrote this around 45-70 BC. He was a lawyer, poet, philosopher, theorist etc. very nice man to read about.

"Nay, had I a hundred tongues, a hundred mouths, and voice of iron, I could not sum up all the forms of crime, or rehearse all the tale of torments."
    - Virgil; Born 70 BC? He was mainly a poet who wrote the greatest epic of all time; Aeneid. Fantastic writing style, and the topics typically mythological so it's interesting (to say the least).

"She has the mindset of a Queen and the heart of a warrior. She is everything all at once and too much for anyone who doesn't deserve her. She is you."
    ― R. H. Sin

This is my fiancee's favorite poet. He has some more fantastic work in Whiskey, Words, and a Shovel II, if anyone is interested.
