Yes, definitely. Discord servers have basically all kind of text-channels that replace forum categories such as suggestions, feedback, bug reports etc.
I understand that communication through Discord is way quicker but I can imagine that activity on your website (forum) average time spent on page, amount of traffic, certain key words that are getting triggered because of people making threads and replying to each other and a bunch of other stuff are beneficial for your Google rankings.

Doesn't it sound like 'server owners' destroy their own free publicity through Google by adding all those chat functions to their Discord servers? I mean if I would run a private server I would absolutely not add suggestion tabs etc to my Discord server to stimulate people to use forums. I'd use a Discord server for quick communication only.

    What are your thoughts?

      • Way better than a long wall of text on Discord due to the formatting capabilities of forums

    • Announcements
    • Staff applications/ban appeals
    • Suggestions (they get way too cluttered on Discord and get lost in random chatter)
    • General organisation; I'd rather visit a forum with 50 different categories rather than a Discord with 50 different channels where things get lost
      • It's also more acceptable to moderate a forum than a Discord

    Also SEO as @Nes mentioned

    edit:
it's also way easier to simply link someone to a thread, especially if you're in-game or something, rather than telling them to find a specific message in a channel within a Discord server they need to be part of

I really think servers are missing out on the free publicity by taking Discord > forums.

Depends on the server though. If you have a massive budget, a big team and you're coding something from scratch then investing money into a website is a good idea. However, if you're just learning, have a small community or just leech+host then there's really no point in getting one.
    New Discord is 'zexillium'

Sounds logical. If you're just learning and have a small community it's just not your time yet to grow in this perspective.
Leech + host is boring anyways, we all know that Pikachuscapes aren't going to last long.
