Thread: What's really going on with COVID-19?

In Ontario [Canada], where I'm from, we're about to enter our 3rd lockdown.
So I'm trying to make sense of things, but there's a lot of conflicting information all over the place.

Here's what I've been able to find with brief searches:

What do you guys think is going on? It's getting more and more concerning.
Post-COVID life still has to be considered, vaccine rollout isn't smooth, and a whole plethora of other problems.

Germany had 2 lockdowns and even tho the last one has been lifted for the people stores and restaurants are still closed down until god knows

Nope not at all, I wonder whats going to happen in summer time, surely they cant tell people to stay home again

Also from Ontario, but I'm not gonna entertain these wild conspiracy theories. Bottom line is that lockdowns have proven to be effective, no? If not, what else do you suggest to slow cases by ~80% VERY quickly? The 2nd lockdown we saw cases dip to ~800 before the restrictions were lifted. What else do you suggest is done instead of locking shit down? I would fully agree that the lockdowns have their obvious problems, and that they can be unfair to small businesses, but what other option is there? The federal gov. has heavily lacked in the vaccination roll-outs.

Any other method aside from lockdowns at this point would only allow the cases to spiral out of control. People look for shit to blame as if any of it matters, e.g. complaining about a bad vaccination roll-out isn't going to solve the problem at all. The damage is already done and they have to react to it.

People try to clap back with "close big business and allow small businesses to have a chance !!" as if that is practical in any sense. Big companies like Walmart are big companies because they have massive supply chains. Your small local mom and pop supermarkets just can't sustain the entire city population turning to them for essentials. Ontario gov. even rolled out restrictions on big box stores, for ex. walmart has to have their non-essentials like electronics/clothing/toys roped off and only available for curbside pickup. People still aren't happy.

tl;dr our society is basically filled with a mixing pot of people who think the virus is a big conspiracy, are against proven science like masks, and are also worried about government tyrannical rule while pretending to give a shit about the national debt. You can literally not win.
