Yes but again, the CoC is not the issue here but the body of whom it represents. If an internally generated a code of conduct was published saying no harassment, would so many people bat an eyelid? No. The upset is because it occured due to social pressure from a political group.

    yes someone "random" claimed it,
but it is based on the fact that GPL ver 3 specifally have a no rescind clause
which GPL ver 2 do not (which seem like a very reasonable claim if you ask me - and a bunch of other people)

it needs to be decided by a court first before you can say whether or not it is incorrect

No. You obviously cannot do that because if the claim turns out to be true then companies will most likely still be allowed to use it for a little while (while they figure out other solutions)

Its a problem for the linux kernel though, because once that time is up, theyve got a bunch of holes in their kernel
(and it doesn't seem like anyone is eagerly willing to help repair them, because of this CoC thing)

you're pretty toxic btw (which i personally don't have anything against, you are just speaking your mind).
but its funny seeing you defend this thing despite it specifically targeting people like yourself

You think it's reasonable that you can give someone permission to use a piece of code, then retract that consent at a later date, and punish them for it? That is very clearly absurd

    a) not true b) if you think this then why did you imply that it's correct in your original post

No; I don't agree with the way that Coraline, the woman who petitioned Linus to adopt the CoC has framed the situation after the fact. She also claimed that this is political and I believe this aggressive demeanor and shaming are disgusting, especially when used in the guise of equality. I do believe that everyone, especially contributors that represent a large project, should behave professionally and not harass others. I'd like to believe I myself have earned the respect of others I work with based on the quality of work and contributions I make. Regardless of me being LGBT I don't think it has affected the rate at which people hire, pay me, or work with me, because my work speaks for itself. I've seen another popular post where someone abused github issues to request that a open-source group adopt a CoC, and I'd like to think his response was completely professional, while the issuer was being aggressive and childish.

No, some random (wrong) person _claimed_ you could "rescind" a license. Which is so obviously incorrect that anyone who deems it realistic should have their lips sewn together (can't wait to release some of my stuff into the public domain and sue Disney for using it for those big bucks)

That "article" is clearly written by someone who doesn't know what they're talking about, just like your post
Nice is the wrong word, naive is a better word. He can definitely be toxic.

As for Google v Oracle, I am scared of the implications it may have on open-source software with APIs potentially being copyrightable, and using APIs might be copyright infringement (unless said use falls under fair use).

It was relevant in the context of my post, not relevant in the context of the topic.

Not too sure about that, it's at 0 . It would have to go minus to even be remotely close to his IQ.
