I'm 21 and just passed my driving test recently
I done insurance check on a shitty Volkswagen MK4 1.4 litre and it comes up to 6k+ a year?!
Any young drivers from UK here that found a solution to this?
6k a year for a 1.4 litre is ridiculous.

Yeah don't get anything over a 1.2 as a first car otherwise the insurance will be crazy, like vippy said depends on area but I pay 1k-1.5k a year for my 2010 Corsa. Also look into getting a black box, that can knock a few hundred if you don't plan on driving like a moron.
I passed my test a month ago, just paid out £650 fully comp for a year for a 1.2 vw polo, all mods declared.
I'd been insured on provisional for 2 and a half years prior though which dropped it down loads.
Use comparison sites to get the best deal, also try changing different variables and see how it affects the cost, you'd be surprised how some factors can bring it down a lot.
I am 20, 21 in January with 3 years no claims. I have a Vauxhall Astra 2015 and pay roughly £900 per year. You will be getting ripped off if you pay £6000. Do a little more shopping and digging around. When I first passed my test, my insurance was roughly £1400 for the year. I've been with Privilege from the start.
Good luck!
You need a black box, take a look at ingenie. On a 1.4 Saxo West Coast my insurance was 1600, since I've had 2 accidents in 3 months and cancelled my insurance, was looking at quotes again and they're between 1.8k to 2.6k, with one accident it's about 1.8k.
Ingenie are pretty good, no curfews, unlimited mileage just tell them how many you think you'll do. You can save money if you don't drive like a twat every 3 months. But you can't use your car for work, like delivery driving.
brother bought a audi a3 1.9tdi for first car and had to have a blackbox to get his insurance to £1900 other quotes were in the 3-4k bracket.
I pay £2k a year for my 66 plate Ford Kuga 2.0 litre diesel 150bhp.
I'm 24.
