Hey everyone, I'm a freshman in college and I'm currently still undecided picking my major. I work a bit with private servers and have somewhat advanced knowledge of computers (alot of people do). Many people at my college have told me they are going into Computer Science. What is your opinion on Computer Science? Do you see any demand for people in this field ten years down the line? If you have a computer science degree what is your current job and what is in demand? Looking forward to your responses thanks

I'd like to know this as well, making decisions for college soon.

But I looked into doing IT work, and software engineering, idk, I only looked around so far.

It's better, but doesn't require a degree, just a certification.

You have to want to do it. A lot of people that join have been programming since they were a early teen. The ones that don't have the misconception that Computer Science is just programming, but most of it commonly relates to algorithms and abstraction. I wouldn't take this on unless you are dedicated and have some prior experience. Otherwise, it will probably just be a huge headache and you'll end up dropping it later.

Definitely, it is on a rise and will continue to do so as long as we advance.

Computer science isn't just programming and developing software. Also it is a very difficult field to go into.

I'm currently doing my degree in Computer Science, I find it very fascinating and stimulating. Computer Scientists are very sought after because they mainly have all the skills of a Software Engineer plus the theoretical knowledge behind Computers and as a result of this, generally have better problem solving skills. As the future continues to build and rely on computers, Computer Scientists will eventually be one of the top professions of the world so there will always be a need for Computer Scientists.

If its what you enjoy then go for it,

As right now,I have problem choosing myself because the course I picked I did not like,it was Mechanical Engineering and Im already 3 years into it and believe me the maths, physics are fucking hard bro,

Instead of computer science you should maybe do software engineer, that way you would have a wider area of knowledge and you will know more and have more experience and learn more about different aspects and not only one thing, but thats of-course up to you,but the main thing you want to think about right now if thats what you want to do,as really working everyday of your life and not enjoying the job will hunt you until you die

The fact that there's really intelligent computer scientists behind all the latest IT concepts etc, (with these concepts being REALLY easy to understand), I feel there'll be a need for the scientists and not the programmers in the future. It's becoming more and more a "hidden occupation amongst the works". In my opinon.
