    alright well, heres my problem, i can't decide what to learn, programming (java or c++) or if i would want to learn web development (javascript, PHP, mysql, AJAX, css, etc)

    both pay equally, quite well to, but i'm not sure which one im more into... they would both take a while to learn (some say 8 years to master c++) and both have about equal opportunities, i know some people are going to just say "why not learn both?" well, eventually i probably would learn both, but i would need to devote alot of time to one of them first.

    i would just like some opinions on what you guys think is more rewarding of a career,
    web development, or software engineer.

    i'm sure i'm not the only one who has thought about this.

    edit: heres a good point someone made to me on MSN,
    web designer if you want money now
    java if you want to invest long term then roll in cash like andrew

    Learn Java and C/C++.

    The others are too easy and many more people do them because of this. You'll be one of a few, rather than one of many.

    If you learn java, web developing wont be hard later on, because PHP and Java has a few similar systems, and Javascript is also very, very similar too.

    I have thought about this a lot too.

    It seems that software developers (most of the time) have it better in the long run, while web developers can make cash on demand.

    Custom websites are expensive to buy and if you find what people want, you can make a quick buck out of it. (Ant-Man)

    Web Developer. The problem is with programmers, they do the same thing faster in India and ask less money. Web Developer is something everyone likes and with nice advertisements you can come far.

    Spoiler for Love:
