I was wondering what is the best and most active version of counter strike? (by active I mean the most servers)
lol, 1.6 IF you want to play cs so much..
I recommend you don't play counter-strike, because it's a waste of your time.
Download Combat arms Europe (if you live in europe) or Combat arms US (if you live in us) and play it instead. It's practically same gameplay as counter-strike, only much better graphics, you get ranks up etc., there are hiscores too.
You don't have to look for servers, because after login you enter "lobby" where there are all servers listed, if you want to host server yourself, you can just click "host server" inside game and in few clicks you have your own server
There are different game modes, normal team vs. team, deathmatch and lot more (can't remember becasue I haven't played it for a while).
The game is free and, if I'm not mistaken, it is best free online fps shooter atm.
Ofc, a lot of people still play CS because they don't know about Combat arms.
Try it and I can guarantee that you're gonna like it..

It was good back in the days, but now there are lots of new online shooters that have same game-play as CS but more features etc.
You can play CS for 4 years (like I did) and not get recognized at all, where as if you play Combat Arms for that long, you'd have some pretty damn high rank and stuff ;D
EDIT: that reminds me.. I bought MW2 few days ago and totally forgot about it rofl. Might go try out the multiplayer...

Combat Arms is a joke, buying weapons with IRL cash lmfao. Also the servers on it are laggy.
