I'm sure some of you may of heard this but Intellij is going to have a new UI in the near future. This is heavily based on Visual Studio Code.

    See the following link: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/artic...UX-jVOtPeMRJph

Well, I signed up for the beta and just noticed today that they sent me an email last month saying that I'm in.

Thought I'd share the UI plugin that Intellij sent me so you guys can see it for yourselves.

    Installation Steps

    1. Download the latest EAP build from IntelliJ https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/nextv...ection=windows
    2. Follow these instructions to install the plugin https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/...ugin_from_disk

Here is a download link to the UI plugin I was provided: https://easyupload.io/tk0wt3

Here's a screenshot of how it looks:

Update: I think it's actually awesome. If you try this, check out "Zen Mode"

Update 2: It's buggy AF, didn't notice the large padding on the left side of the code...

I don't have said bugs in the OP with it. It's quite neat. Few things are annoying but fortunately, as always, you can configure everything to your exact liking.
There's definitely a learning curve and I'm likely in the minority when I say I enjoy the new UI. Minimalistic UI that only shows things that you actually make use of, pretty neat.

Nope. Don’t like that. I hope there’s an option to stick to the old after the update. Worst thing about VSC is the UI.

What don't you like about Intellij's new UI? The proposal was that Intellij for beginners looks and feels very intimidating and so only showing the buttons you really need are visible is better. Everything else is hidden in the tool bar. It's more pleasant to develop in than you think and doesn't feel as trash as VSC.

Just checked on my Win10 PC, those bugs are now gone for me so it might of been an issue on Win11 or some issue with the initial setup.

IMO simple isn't always better. For example, I hate how in VS Code you have to open the command window thing (whatever it's called) to access anything important in the editor. I like in JetBrains stuff that you are able to do most things from the toolbar, or from within the settings window, which then has a search bar.

I guess it just comes down to what you're used to, I use IntelliJ, PHPStorm, PyCharm, DataGrip regularly. I hate using VS Code at work, but the project I work on at my company is too cheap to pay for commercial licenses.

You can still use personal licenses at work, I do the same thing (although my work does buy them, I just prefer to use my own)

There's some policy bs that won't let me, something to do with external licensing and the nature of what we do.
