Among a few other significant announcements at Computex, Intel announced a new 'limited edition' processor, the i7 8086k. Intel is releasing the processor on June 8, marking the fortieth anniversary of the first model of the 8086k. We'll have to wait and see how the 'limited edition' marketing affects the price of the unit, but the theoretical performance of the processor is fairly remarkable. Intel continued the trend of 14nm construction, packing in six cores and twelve threads with a base clock of 4GHz and a boost clock of 5GHz. The one concern I hold with this processor, as well as most of Intel's newer processors, is the TDP and heat problems. Many of Intel's seventh- and eighth-generation processors almost necessitated deliding to cool efficiently.
At any rate, Intel is giving away 8,086 of these processors for free, starting tomorrow. The link for the giveaway can be found here. You can't register for the giveaway until 5:00pm PST tomorrow, June 7, and the registration will only be open for twenty-four hours. Good luck to anyone entering!

Sounds crazy, makes me wish I waited to build my computer to get it (assuming the price will be reasonable). I have intel i7 8700k currently.
Quite frankly, I assumed the price was going to be pretty high. Intel's typical price/performance ratio is pretty garbage. I have an i7 7700k that still functions perfectly fine; in the snowball's chance in hell that I win the giveaway, I would probably keep it sealed as a shelf piece.
Probably going to have heating problems and be unreliable as with most new stuff. Also will probably be overpriced knowing intel. Interested to see how it turns out though.
This processor has already been released and is available on Newegg. There is also an AnandTech review available here. This processor is nearly on par with the i7 8700k, but costs a bit more simply due to the anniversary marketing. It's about as impressive as I assumed it would be, to which I reiterate one of my original points:
