I've just got a job, I'm only 15, and I'm starting to save my money to build a computer because my laptop likes to heat up to 350 degrees if I run Eclipse, Internet Browser, and Skype. I would like a computer that can run Minecraft on high detail and run games like Battlefield 3 on low to medium graphics. I have a budget around $500. Is that reasonable?

I have a monitor, mouse, and keyboard so you can exclude that. I don't have OS but I'd prefer Windows 7.

    Any help would be awesome!

500 will get your minimum to basic specs, I'd suggest saving up till you have more.

Even when building your own? My friend built one for $600 and can play Battlefield 3 on Maximum Graphics.

Well, $500 is a bit low for a budget, it all depends on what your going to use the PC for. So you have heating problems? I would replace the thermal paste on your CPU, also if you can try to clean the fan of you laptop (dust may not allow air to come in). If your going to build your own gaming PC, your probably talking $700 +. However, purchasing PCs are going to cost you even more, which is in the general area of $1,000 and up. I hope I helped you out to the best of my abilities, if you have any questions, please just private message me.

    Spoiler for Supports:

If you're willing to settle for a tad less you'll be fine. Get an AMD FX-4xxx or an AMD FX-8150 and an HD 7870 and you'll easily be able to max out Battlefield 3. An FX-8150 and a HD 7870 would be around $350-$375. Now to add, if you're demanding everything be in 1080 and you need a high res Monitor, you'll have very little left over for the case and whatever peripherals you'd like, but none the less, your build would be able to run BF3 on Max-Ultra. Good luck.

I'm not wanting 1080p but at least 720p which my monitor is capable of.

What do you need with it? A monitor, keyboard, windows itself, etc?

Then the parts I pointed out would be great for you. You'll definitely be able to get the results you want if 720 is all you're looking for.
