AnandTech - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Review: Retaking The Performance Crown

The GTX 680, should I buy it or go for a lower level card? If so, what card do you think ?

If you want to, sure. An overclocked or SPB 560Ti would be fine for gaming. You'd be able to run BF3 in Ultra at 60FPS easily with 560Ti, and they're cheap.

I would recommend the 670 and overclocking it. The performance difference is marginal especially for for the price difference, a 10-20 fps drop from the 680 and with a decent overclock you can easily match the 680. The 680 isn't worth the $100 difference in reference card price unless you are going for bragging rights or planning on going SLI. I only say SLI with the 680 because it scales a little better in SLI and I am a firm believer in only going duel cards if you already have the best, otherwise you should just upgrade.

It depends on how much you want to spend and what you plan to do. Even for most gamers, anything above a 560ti is mostly unnecessary at the moment.

A 560ti is much cheaper and can handle most games out there on max settings quite well.

But like I said, if you have the money and feel like getting one of the best cards, then go for it.

If you buy that card, you won't need a new one for like 7 years lol.

I think the best card for now is a 580 though, if you don't want to break the bank

That is on low res with AA off, the 560ti won't get you 4x AA or higher than 1080p

I just looked into it and a stock 560 ti 448 core edition will average ~48 fps on HIGH.
