And most games don't use more than 4 cores. Some don't use more than 2.

1GB GPU, make sure the clocks decent, like ATI 5850 or 5870 are budget. 5770 if you're super budget.
250GB HDD if you wont be playing much games at a time or storing much music/films. Otherwise go with 1TB.

    Then that should be decent.

EDIT: Notice it says HD PCI-Express 1080p Video Card ONBOARD? You DON'T want onboard! Some are decent but most of them suck so much and I think they use RAM for GPU memory. Also 16GB RAM isn't needed.

Ok, here's one I was thinking of, should be able to max out a few games at 1920x1080 and easily max out most at 1280x720 (Which I prefere to play at, don't think there's any difference in most games and it runs smoother)

I made that, dunno how to save carts to share so I screenied lol.

Actually bro, instead of me guessing trying to guess things can we just wait till bf3's recommended system requirements are released then build a pc off that ?

Really? Because my E8500 system plays every game I throw at it just fine.

What resolution? Crysis 2 with the DX11 patch is very system intensive.

The developers of Battlefield 3 have stated that even today's high-end systems aren't going to be able to max out Battlefield 3.
