I've got a quick question and would appreciate any answers. Im looking to switch to Rackspace and get one of their cloud servers, unfortunately they start charging you after you reach a monthly cap. In this case, the cap is 400mbs. My question is, is it probable that an rs2 private server with no more than 10-30 players on at a time could possibly use this up in 30 days?
An RSPS wouldn't even hit %2 of that throughput. Although I do think you're confusing stuff as mbs would be data flowing in/out at one given time, not the amount of bandwidth you have consumed in the month.
I would suggest sticking with a VPS.

Even though RackSpace is a very good company, and I would recommend it for anything else I wouldn't tell you to use their cloud servers. If you do, look out for attempting to get "decent" support. Rackspace really irritates me because of they are always charging for everything you need. The services themselves are good, but in my case they just weren't good for the price. If you want a cloud server, go look at one of the many forums dedicated to web hosting. webhostingtalk.com is my favorite personally.
400mbps cap means that you max output could be 400mbps... but for DDOs attacks any attack can take down your line.. now here's the trick you see that small 4 beside the 400mbps?
Scroll down the page and you will see in small print 4 means...
4The amount of aggregate outbound bandwidth across all attached network interfaces (PublicNet, ServiceNet, Cloud Networks). The maximum amount of outbound public Internet bandwidth is limited to 40% of the aggregate limit. Inbound traffic is not limited. Host networking is redundant and bandwidth is delivered over two separate bonded interfaces, each able to carry 50% of the aggregate limit. We recommend using multiple Layer 4 connections to maximize throughput.
..Short and sweet means you can only use 40% of that 400mbps.
....Now take a look at the bandwidth charge for the first 10TB each Gb is $0.12 so if you get a 1Gbps you will be spending alot on bandwidth.. but wait.. they don;t charge for in-coming bandwidth only outgoing so your good to go.. for DDOS attacks not costing you money.. but DDOS attacks will cost you downtime.
Inquire about their protection... I believe they don't advertise it but they must have some sort of network protection with Arbor devices.
