So how does it all work? Is there a tutorial on it anywhere? When you purchase a VPS, does it improve your computer's performance? or do you need to run a private server on the VPS? Also couldn't I just go the walmart, and buy a server box like these?:

I've never used a VPS before, and I might soon, so I was wondering. Answers are appreciated!

You get the vps, they'll email you the ip for your Remote Desktop Acess connection, you log in, download java, jdk, no-ip, put your server on there, turn auto restarter on, there you go.

Heres what a vps is because you obvoiusly have no idea.

A vps = Virtual Private Server. They are partitions of a Dedicated server, there are normally many vps's in the dedicated. Companys have big rooms filled with little computers, which is what it is. You don't have the vps at your house, its somewhere else in the world. The main reasons people use a VPS are:
    1. They get really good download/upload speeds
    2. The vps is running 24/7
    3. Normally hardly any downtime (power shorts, ISP problems)
    4. Its not using your bandwidth.

Basically what happens is, you'll buy a VPS from the companys website. Normally within the next 24 hours you'll recieve a email or some type of notification of the details to use your VPS.
Logging on and using a VPS is really easy, you use a program that comes with windows called "Remote Desktop Connection"
On Windows XP, this can be found in the following directory:
Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Communications --> Remote Desktop Connection.

Im pretty sure it will be a similar route for vista. To get your server/website files onto the VPS there are only a few ways you could do it:
    1. Upload server to somewhere (uppit, rapidshare, your own webhost)
    2. Use the VPS web control panel (If you have one)

Yeah, most people buy them because of there speeds, 24/7 uptime, and it not chewing up your own bandwidth.

I hope you have a better understanding of what these are, i explained it quickly if you want to know more, just send me a PM.
